Amazing who you find at Synod

Yesterday after a taxing week of Death and Dying at college the students of WSC were to be at Darlington Districts Synod to lead worship. We were mostly in need of sleep and some rest though I found the worship quite energising.

As we came to communion I said the peace and invited everyone to share the peace with each other. One person was a previous Superintendent Minister in the circuit I grew up in. The first thing he said was

I never though I would get the chance to hear you say the peace

Which was quite moving…

Then in between sharing the peace with others I made a beeline for someone else I recognised. We had both recognised each other and Helen asked where she knew me from. All I had to say was singing at Northallerton… I’ve sung with many different groups over the years and there was a time when we sang much of Roger Jones music. Helen then instantly realised how we knew each other.

I’m glad I was the Student Rep to Synod… It meant I had to stay for the day and might not have otherwise had the chance to catch up with Helen.
