Over the last day or so I have been ensconced at King’s Park Conference Centre as a member of the British Methodist Connexion’s Initial Stationing Committee.
For non Methodists out there, this is a committee which discerns what will be the first appointment for trainee ministers after they complete the first phase of their training to become Methodist ministers. The second phase is completed in the first 2 years of their first appointment, after which point they will ordained.
Up to ordination, newly minted Methodist ministers are on probation and are known internally as Probationers.
The process is one based on trust. Probationers do not get to choose where their appointments are located, though they are invited to express preferences. But theoretically they could be matched with an appointment which could be just about anywhere across the country.
