All I want for Christmas…

One of the readings at church on Sunday morning reminded me of Christmas Day morning where we spent some time with women in a prison. There were gifts for everyone, such a simple package but the joy from some of the women for receiving something as simple as a pen or notepad reminded me of how fortunate I am.

Not because of all the lovely gifts I received but because I knew I was going to spend the rest of the day with a few of the people who love and care for me. It was a joy to spend a part of the day with women who were not able to spend time with their family’s and those they loved, to show them that even though they couldn’t be with those they wanted there were people who wanted to show they cared.

From the writings of Desmond Tutu:

You are very special to God. You are of infinite worth to God. God loves you not because you are lovable, but you are lovable precisely because God loves you. And that love will never change. God loved you and that is why God created you, created me. God loves you now, God will always love you, for ever and ever. His is a love which will never let you go. Your name is engraved on the palms of God’s hands. The very hairs on your head are numbered. You and I, all of us, are known by name.
